Volunteers are needed for living shoreline installation at Philippe Park on April 19. The park is located at 2525 Philippe Pkwy in Safety Harbor.

Pinellas County is calling on local nature lovers and community champions to roll up their sleeves for an exciting volunteer opportunity at Philippe Park on April 19. The county will continue its living shoreline enhancement project — and you can be a part of it.

Volunteers will help install critical shoreline elements along the park’s northeastern seawall at 2525 Philippe Parkway, including castle blocks, oyster bags, and oyster volcanoes. These natural tools help improve water quality, create aquatic habitats for wildlife, and protect the shoreline from erosion. The work is hands-on, sometimes strenuous, and definitely rewarding.

Participants should come prepared to get wet and muddy. Since many of the materials weigh around 35 pounds, the effort involves wading into the water. Closed-toe shoes and clothes that can handle the mess are a must. Volunteers should also bring plenty of water and a can-do attitude.
