Laymen’s Food Review: Lunch at the Brass

Laymen’s Food Review: Lunch at the Brass

Bottom: Alsacienne Onion Tart

We’ve always loved the St. Pete Brasserie just like a lot of ‘Burgers. Wilko, Chef J, Justin and Chance have made this place kinda like our Cheers bar where everyone is a friendly familiar face…almost like family. Of course, that alone wasn’t the reason for customers like us to become regular. They actually serve good food consistently.

The Brass has a great Happy Hour daily from 5-7pm, featuring $5 Hors D’oeuvres, cocktails, wine and $1 off all beers. Needless to say, dinner and drinks at the bar have never disappointed. Late last year, the Brass decided to start serving lunch and that was enough to get us pretty excited. Their lunch menu consists of starters & salads, plates principaux, and sandwiches.

DJ Fab: I was hungry and was in the mood for something savory and filling so I went with the Brasserie burger which a lot of folks will argue to be one of the best burgers in the ‘Burg. The burger is perfectly cooked and comes with brie (mmmm, cheese), sauteed mushrooms and onions and truffle oil aioli. It’s a smaller portion of the dinner burger but just as satisfying for a quick lunch. It also comes with the tastiest fries that the Brass is known for.

Vegenator: I tried the wonderful Alsacienne Onion Tart, which was a quiche-style dish. It came with a side house salad and was dee-lish! Seasoned wonderfully, both the tart and the salad hit the spot. Because I was extra hungry, I tried their vegetarian soup of the day– a roasted red pepper bisque. Everything was hearty, tasty and definitely satisfying. The Brasserie continues to please with some of the city’s best eats. (p.s. Try their creme brulee if you’re ever in the mood to melt into a puddle of sweet-tooth bliss!)

Silver CFO: At just $8, these two fish tacos were more than what I was expecting. They definitely don’t skimp on fish with the size of these things! It’s probably one of the best seasoned, flavorful, perfectly cooked fish tacos in the ‘Burg I’ve had. It just had the right amount of accoutrement to fish without overpowering it.

And what better time to try St. Pete Brasserie than today as they participate in Dining Out for Life, an annual dining fundraising event raising money for AIDS service organizations participated in by a number of local restaurants in the Bay Area. St. Pete Brasserie is donating 25% of their dinner sales to the cause today, April 25th. To see other participating restaurants, click here.

St. Pete Brasserie is located at 533 Central Ave. They are open for lunch Monday through Friday 11-3pm and for dinner Monday through Thursday 5-10pm and Friday-Saturday 5-11pm.
