The Homemade Broadcast: Tampa Bay Times Delves Into Police Shootings

Ben Montgomery is naturally curious. With the high profile shootings involving police of Michael Brown and others he wanted to know how often this happens. How many times did a police officer discharge his weapon and either kill or maim a suspect? To his surprise, he found that these numbers weren’t kept not only in Florida but in the entire country. Thus began an almost 3 year journey, meticulously reading through a mile high stack of police reports obtained through record requests from over 300 individual law enforcement departments in Florida. Ben stopped by Radio St. Pete‘s The Homemade Broadcast to talk about his findings, navigating media bias and his appearance on WNYC’s RadioLab Podcast.
