Ben Montgomery is naturally curious. With the high profile shootings involving police of Michael Brown and others he wanted to know how often this happens. How many times did a police officer discharge his weapon and either kill or maim a suspect? To his surprise, he found that these numbers weren’t kept not only in Florida but in the entire country. Thus began an almost 3 year journey, meticulously reading through a mile high stack of police reports obtained through record requests from over 300 individual law enforcement departments in Florida.
