Get ready to rock out and unleash your inner punk with one of the highest-energy theater performances St. Pete has ever seen. American Stage announced that it is hosting ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch‘ at two of the city’s most iconic venues.

The multi-time Tony Award-winning show is a groundbreaking musical featuring a live band on stage with the performers. The audience follows a journey through the electrifying world of rock ‘n’ roll with Hedwig, a genderqueer East German rock singer, as she navigates the complexities of life, loss, and self-discovery. Described as “a euphoric night on a rock ‘n’ roll rollercoaster,” Hedwig is a darkly humorous self-love story that explores gender identity, acceptance, and the freedom to be whoever you want to be.

Tickets are on sale now, and quantities are limited, so we suggest grabbing yours quickly. Part of what makes this show’s time in St. Pete is that it not only includes three weeks at the celebrated American Stage, but also has a full week finale taking place in the perfect grunge rock venue that is Jannus Live in downtown St. Pete.

Hedwig takes over Jannus Live June 14 and 15

Performances first took place at American Stage (163 3rd Street North) on May 15 – June 9. The Hedwig finale weekend at Jannus Live (200 1st Avenue North) will feature performances on June 14 and June 15. All shows are 18+ only due to sexuality and spoken violence.

Starring a transgender icon and her band, this iconic musical celebrates love, identity, and the journey to finding your true voice. The entire performance is given powerful and high-energy emotion thanks to the rockin’ live band accompanying Hedwig on stage and the hard-hitting lyrics of Hedwig’s songs. The entire show takes audiences on a raucous, moving, sometimes dark, and punk-fueled journey for love, identity, and self-acceptance.

Described as “brilliantly innovative, heartbreaking, and wickedly funny,” Hedwig and the Angry Inch made an immediate splash on Broadway, becoming a star almost overnight. The show bends genres, smashes down the fourth wall, and electrifies with its pulsing score – all of which has created an “ahead of its time” sensation since its debut. Getting a show of this caliber – and having the spectacle of the rock drama taking place on the Jannus stage – is a boon for St. Pete.
