Maddie’s Cakes, Foxtail Coffee Co. highlight new and upcoming ‘Burg businesses

Florida-roasted coffee and creative baked goods are coming to St. Pete with the opening of two new businesses in the ‘Burg. Maddie’s Cakes has already opened its doors, while Foxtail Coffee Co. is nearing its big reveal on 4th Street.

The highly-anticipated debut of Foxtail Coffee Co. in St. Pete is finally drawing near. The Orlando-based coffee chain is making its first foray into the Tampa Bay area with the opening of its café on 4th Street in the former Mini Doughnut Factory location at 730 4th Street North.

The new location is the first step in what the company anticipates being a major expansion into Tampa Bay, as nearly all of the current 26 locations are in the greater Orlando area, with two cafes in Melbourne being the only exceptions.

Standing on a dedication to sustainability and ethical business practices, Foxtail sources beans worldwide from what it identifies as environmentally-friendly farms that pay workers fair wages. All beans are roasted at their facility in Orlando, and the coffee shops themselves place an emphasis on espresso-based drinks and “world famous” cold brew offerings.

Just this week, the Florida chain announced a new lineup of fall drinks, including a pumpkin spice latte, salted caramel mocha latte, and pumpkin cold brew.

While an official date for opening has not yet been set, buildout is nearly complete and an announcement is expected soon.

‘Sleazy Blondies,’ cake pops and gluten-free muffins make their St. Pete Debut

Maddie’s Cakes, a new local bakery concept, has just joined in at the EDGE Collective, the urban food court and marketplace on Central Ave. Open for business only on weekends, Maddie’s Cakes specializes in delectable (and Instagrammable) treats and cakes.

In addition to the popular buttercream cakes that helped the business get off the ground, her dishes include “sleazy blondies”, giant fudge brownies, cake pops, banana bread, gluten-free blueberry muffins, and other assorted goodies. Many of the Maddie’s Cakes baked treats can also be found around town, as the wholesale side of the business provides baked good for several local cafes and shops.

Currently, Maddie’s Cakes is open on Fridays from 6-10 pm, Saturdays from 4-10 pm, and Sundays from 12-5 pm. The EDGE Collective is located at 1234 Central Avenue. To see what specialties Maddie’s Cakes is cooking up, follow them on Instagram here.
