The 2022 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is back in the ‘Burg this February, with construction and opening events set to take place before the end of January. The 18th-annual race takes place February 25-27th in Downtown St. Pete and tickets are available now at gpstpete.com.
The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Presented by RP Funding is an action-packed weekend featuring 10 individual races from six different series. The annual event – both seen and heard throughout DTSP each year – races down the runways at Albert Whitted Airport and speeds around The Dali and along the downtown waterfront underneath the St. Petersburg skyline. Daily general admission tickets are $25 for Friday, $40 for Saturday, and $55 for Sunday, while single Day Grandstand seats are $120 in upper rows and $95 in lower rows.
Construction on the track for one of INDYCAR’s most scenic races is set to begin on January 31, and the city is kicking off the action that day with a ‘First Block’ track build event to celebrate the beginning of the build out. According to the Firestone Grand Prix, City of St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch, RP Funding and Firestone Grand Prix organizers, race series officials and drivers will join for a media event to preview the weekend and make special announcements regarding February’s events.
“There’s no better way to begin a new racing season while also enjoying the spectacular weather of St. Pete, Florida. ‘The Sunshine City’ is the perfect setting for the start of another NTT INDYCAR SERIES season,” said Kim Green, co-owner, chairman and CEO of Green Savoree St. Petersburg, LLC, organizers of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Presented by RP Funding. “We can’t wait to open the spectator gates for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding.”
Weekend events include several types of races
The highlight of the weekend of races is the kickoff of the 2022 season for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, while nine more races of varying levels will complement the action. Dozens of racing’s rising stars will face off in various competitions such as the Indy Lights series and the Indy Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires and Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship doubleheader races.
Organizers are also touting IMSA-sanctioned Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup and SRO’s GT America adding two races each to a loaded schedule and bringing fender-to-fender showroom stock racing to the Burg, as well. For those who don’t want to miss out on a second of the action, 3-day weekend tickets are available as well, including 3-Day General Admission tickets for only $60, and 3-Day Grandstand seats at $155 and $125 for the upper and lower rows, respectively.
