Artist Statement

I paint these people without faces, but you can see their emotion in the electric togetherness of the setting. I’m known locally for my vivid and joyful printings of Black and Brown people and for the preservation of historic photographs. Whether they be families circa St. Petersburg 1950, or abandoned snapshots found in gutted homes in gentrified neighborhoods, they retell a forgotten history. My work doesn’t just tell the story of St. Petersburg, it analyzes and tells the story of Black and Brown people who deserve to have their memories materialized in art forever.

A portion of proceeds from this exhibit will benefit the Shirley Proctor Puller Foundation art summer camp program.
