Join us for a hands-on Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop at the MFA, where ancient Japanese textile traditions meet modern creativity! Inspired by the MFA’s special exhibition Kimono: The Triumph of Japanese Dress, participants will explore the fascinating art of Shibori, a technique that involves folding, binding, and dyeing fabric with natural indigo to create stunning patterns.
You’ll learn the step-by-step process of Shibori, from preparing your fabric to mastering the various folding and resist methods that define this intricate art. No prior dyeing experience is necessary – whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned artist, this workshop will provide you with the tools and techniques to create unique textile pieces. All materials will be provided. Please wear clothes that you do not mind getting dye on!
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with your very own hand-dyed creations and a deeper understanding of Shibori’s cultural significance and its connection to nature’s beautiful indigo hues.
Come get your hands creatively messy, connect with a timeless craft, and take home a piece of art that you’ll cherish! Pre-registration required. Limited spots are available.
