Tedra’s Cultural Arts Braid Experience (TCABE) holds its second BRAVE BRAIDS Fashion Show on Saturday, March 16, at the Factory St. Pete from 5 to 7 pm. BRAVE BRAIDS will transform the space at 2606 Fairfield Ave S, St. Petersburg, 33712 into a world of youth-led displays and performances featuring colorful braid design.
“BRAIDING has been the compelling magnetic pull that has created BRAVE confidence in our students,” shares Valerie Rutledge, founder of TCABE. “I have seen the shyness turn into fierce confidence and it has truly been awarding to witness their transformations. On March 16th, 2024, we are giving these children — who have worked hard for months to enhance their skills — an opportunity to showcase them to the community.”
TCABE students will present braid art, design, and fashions as they share their knowledge of braid history, as well as their experiences in the program. The event will:
• increase awareness of braiding as a path toward financial stability that can begin during youth
• provide families with opportunities to network and meet salon owners, art schools and art organizations
• discuss design forecasts, evolution of styles and trends
• explore the history and connection to fashion, science, upholstery, and more
BRAVE BRAIDS has the goal of raising funds to bring young braiders to New York City to learn from prestige celebrity braiders.
Tickets are $25. VIP tickets and VIP platform are available ($50/$150). Tickets can be purchased at www.tedrasbraidexperience.com.
About Tedra’s Cultural Arts Braid Experience (TCABE): TCABE was established in 2022 as a nonprofit organization that teaches the art, history, and business of hair braiding to children of all ages. Braiding is a skill that is simultaneously financially sustainable and mentally restorative. Our braid program captures the time and attention of the youth, giving our students a place to grow, learn, and build healthy relationships with themselves and other students. With consistent support, students accelerate through the braid program in as little as six weeks.
