The shoulders are complicated in structure, hence the term “shoulder complex.” Its makeup is similar to the pelvic girdle, however, the shoulders are less stable than the hips. Oue everyday movements as well as our sporting activities can affect the mobility and stability of the shoulders.
In a yoga practice, students are asked to make movements that are out of the ordinary. For instance, you may be asked to bring your arms overhead, behind your back, under your legs, across your chest, or to hold your body weight away from the floor. Some of these actions may be easy for you. But when we struggle with them, that is when we start to ask “Why?”

In this workshop, we’ll explore what shoulder mobility means by talking looking at:

Bones, location, and function
Muscle groupings and primary actions
Healthy relationship to the spine
Restrictions and modifications
Asana from a different perspective
Anatomy Snack Bite: Mobile Shoulders was inspired by Jade’s work in supporting and adjusting students in their asana practice for 15+ years.
