Etsy to Entrepreneur: Businesses to Watch in the Burg

The Etsy movement has inspired hobbyist the world over to pursue their passion in an entrepreneurial way. The Burg has seen several small, family owned projects go from simple concepts to beloved businesses. St. Pete's dedication to all things local has allowed for such small businesses to find notoriety at such venues as The Saturday Morning MarketLocaltopiaLocal BudsThe Indie MarketEDGE District Farmers Market and the Brocante Market. From rather anonymous vendor to sought after distributor, here are 6 businesses to watch in St. Pete.



O' Berry's Succulents

This father-daughter duo behind O'Berry's Succulents have taken the bay area by storm. Their succulent dry gardens have found homes in vintage and found objects. They have been featured in the St. Pete Indie Market, Hyde Park Market and Strands of Sunshine. Some of their floral innovations include melting old vinyl records together to form a fashionable plot. Recently featured were their barrel aged succulents.



Mother Kombucha

Mother Kombucha is a fresh essence in the Burg. Their tea is served in a variety of flavors and served on tap for optimal taste. Kombucha is rich with probiotics, anti-oxidants and amino acids with a much lower sugar content than juice or soda. The company only uses organic, fair trade teas and create flavor with spices and herbal tinctures to enhance the flavor palette of each brew. This tea is St. Pete-certified, made with care and love in the heart of the Burg. Mother Kombucha can be found at the St. Pete Indie Market, Saturday Morning Market, Mad Hatter's Ethnobotanical Tea Bar, Squeeze Juice Works and Hyde Park Village Fresh Market. Mother Kombucha sells it by the glass and the growler. 



Urban Canning Company, LLC

The Urban Canning Company was founded by St. Pete Native, Illene Sofranko. She was taught how to can by her great uncle who grew in the mountains of West Virginia where canning was necessary for survival during the long winter months. Urban Canning Company offers one of a kind hand crafted and hand preserved foods such as jams, pickles, chutneys, salsas, relishes, mustards and other artisan canned goods. Each product is hand packed and preserved using traditional methods so you won't find preservatives in any of their products. You can find their products at the EDGE District Farmer's, The Seminole Heights Market, The Hyde Park Village Fresh Market. 

Tropiccool

TropicCool, the double decker, mobile gourmet sorbet shop carries recipes that have been tried and tested over several generations. The owners promise that each and every ingredient, from the fruits and berries to the hand selected nut toppings, is fresh. Their mobile hot spot was so sought after and loved that TropicCool opened a permanent location on Central Ave. TropicCool 2246 Central Ave. 

Stash-A Place For Yarn

A new tenant is poised to move to the 600 Block of Central Ave very soon. Stash-A Place For Yarn has made waves through an effective indiegogo campaign and an unyielding push through Facebook, Twitter and the companies offiicial website. Stash promises to take customers from inspiration to creation. The yarn shop will provide an array of products with lessons from the owner and sip'n'knit events that allow fellow enthusiasts to collaborate in a relaxing environment. Shannon's Web 

In early February, a little shop called Shannon's Web opened in the Grand Central District. The store sells candles, home decorations and one-of-a-kind gifts that add a personal touch to any holiday. Shannon's Web is a member of Keep St. Pete Local and provides a space for St. Pete vendors and consumers to discover one another. The store features up-cycled furniture, candles made in-house and an plethora of goodies that you can combine to make one exceptional gift basket. Shannon's Web 2454 Central Ave.
