Electric vehicles provide free rides all around downtown

Electric vehicles provide free rides all around downtown

Perhaps you’ve seen the 5-seater electric vehicles cruising around downtown the Burg. Nickel Ride’s eco-friendly electric vehicles provide free transportation in the downtown area.

It’s a boost for tourists trying to take in as much of the arts and food scene as they can before departing our slice of paradise. The new rides also enhance the local’s downtown experience. Whether it’s date night or First Friday, hopping to Movies in the Park or the next Rowdies match, the Nickel Ride app is removing at least one headache from your evening explorations.

This form of alternative transportation arrived in August. Each Nickel Ride vehicle is decorated with the logos of the most longstanding and adored businesses in the Sunshine City.

Free rides to the best businesses downtown

Why provide the service for free? The minds behind The Nickel Ride hope the money saved on transportation (i.e. Uber, Lyft, parking garages, gas) will be redistributed to the litany of breweries, museums, restaurants and concert venues downtown.

Tips for the drivers are encouraged, of course.

How do you get a Nickel Ride? Residents interested in a Nickel Ride can schedule a trip through their mobile app, or by calling 855 WE R FREE. There’s always the old fashioned way of hailing a Nickel Ride as it passes downtown.

Nourishing the local business ecosystem

The concept first launched to much acclaim in Fort Myers. It has since expanded to Punta Gorda and Cape Coral. The Nickel Ride allows its local advertising partners to provide special discounts and surprise giveaways in the vehicles, too.

Here’s to continuing the nourishment of the Burg’s local business ecosystem.
