A new restaurant in Gulfport is serving up some of the best hot dogs and meat-and-cheese covered treats around. Dog Pier Hot Dog Shop opened in late 2021 at 3121 Beach Blvd S in Gulfport and has quickly become a cult favorite for those in the know.

The shop offers more than 1,000 different hot dog combinations with their plethora of tasty toppings and all-beef dogs (veggie hot dogs also available). In addition to hot dogs, Dog Pier’s entire menu is a glutinous paradise of cheat meal dishes with disco fries, pierogis, loaded nachos and fresh baked pretzels. They also offer “northern specialties” like the “Big Guy Pork Roll,” an Italian sausage sub and boneless wings.

A recent addition to the menu is an “everything edible” bowl of homemade chili in a fried tortilla, complete with an edible spoon to bite into once the chili is finished. Complete with a wine, beer and seltzer selection, Dog Pier Hot Dog Shop is a gastronomically delightful hidden gem in Gulfport.

Specialty hot dogs bring creativity and intrigue

Among those 1,000+ hot dog options, Dog Pier is there to guide diners along with more than a dozen specialty dogs already on the menu. The Big Ben, for instance, comes topped with coleslaw, French fries and American cheese. The German Dog is an all-beef hot dog piled with house-made pierogis, spicy mustard and sauerkraut. There’s the Hawaiian Dog (BBQ, bacon, pineapple), The Benny (baked beans, spicy mustard, bacon) and even the crazy-yet-intriguing Hunter Dog topped with peanut butter and hot sauce.

We haven’t tried the Hunter Dog yet, but please, share a review if you’ve braved that wild concoction.

While the indulgent dogs and specials are the best part, the next great reason to visit is a pretty simple one: the prices. Any of those specialty hot dogs are just $3. Just want a regular old hot dog? Two bucks. Make it a combo and get two hot dogs, a drink and your choice of side for just $7. Kids’ meals are available too, complete with a take-home beach pail with juice box, for just $5.

Inflation may have come for chicken wings, but it seems hot dogs have weathered the storm just fine. Follow Dog Pier Hot Dog Shop on facebook to keep up with specials and see operating hours.
