We’re missing the sundae, but there may still be a cherry on top of this news. Commuters driving along MLK the last few days have noticed a big change, as the iconic Dairy Inn ice cream shop has been all but razed, bringing an end to a long run for the beloved ice cream spot.

However, while the well-known building may soon be gone forever, it appears the famous ice cream may be making a return – just not at the original address. The business updated its instagram profile to share a brief but promising bio: “Relocating. Looking forward to updates.”

The building had actually been nearing completion of renovations (though the business stayed open during the upgrades), but it now appears the property will no longer be home a restaurant of any kind, as one of the neighboring business owners shared the building is being razed to make way for condos.

As we wait for more news, the suspense will continue to build. The Tampa Bay Times reported the owner declined to comment for now on the future of his historic local business. In the meantime, we’ll keep an eye on their social media for possible updates about where they will move.

Dairy Inn has been a local favorite since 1947, an incredible run that has seen so much change for the city. Our fingers are crossed the historic shop is able to find a new home. And until then, we’ll savor the memories of cold soft serve and tasty hot dogs.
