Madeira Beach’s beloved institution Candy Kitchen launched a GoFundMe to rebuild after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. For over 74 years, Candy Kitchen has been a fixture in the community, known for its nostalgic atmosphere and homemade ice cream. However, the storm has left the shop severely damaged, with machinery destroyed, jeopardizing its ability to serve the generations of customers who cherish it.

The GoFundMe campaign, organized by Nick Kidd, has set a fundraising goal of $75,000 to help Candy Kitchen recover. The funds will go toward purchasing new equipment, paying employees, and replacing the rare candies and sodas that line the shop’s shelves.

Rebuilding the beachside sweet shop after Helene

Mathew Giordano and Alexis August, the owners of Candy Kitchen, faced financial challenges before the hurricane, as their beachside location made flood insurance unaffordable. Despite the extensive damage, they are determined to rebuild the historic shop.

Community members are rallying to support the fundraiser, with many recalling fond memories of summer nights spent indulging in their favorite ice cream flavors. “We won’t let this setback destroy a place so dear to us all,” said Kidd, emphasizing the community’s resolve to see Candy Kitchen thrive once again.

Donations can be made on the GoFundMe page to help restore this iconic piece of Madeira Beach’s history.
