Burg Bits: Top 3 Pier Designs Selected, New Tapas Restaurant On Central

Burg Bits: Top 3 Pier Designs Selected, New Tapas Restaurant On Central

Park, Walk and Cheer

The St. Pete Police Department and the Tampa Bay Rays announced an initiative on March 23 that would begin awarding outstanding behavior on the part of citizens with 4 tickets to any Rays game during the 2015 season (as long as it's not sold out). Seems that not all tickets are bad in the Burg.

This initiative is part of Chief Anothony Holloway's hope to better the relationship between St. Pete citizens and the police department. With officers pounding the pavement to establish positive relationships and begin constructive dialogues with the residents of the neighborhoods they serve, it now pays to be kind and courteous in the city.

After the Pier public survey revealed majority support for the Destination St. Pete Pier design concept, the Pier Selection Committee made their top three picks for the new St. Pete Pier: Alma, Destination St. Pete and The Pier Park. The committee will be requesting additional technical information from each design group regarding their proposed concept. Visit the New St. Pete Pier website for immediate updates on the committee's final decision.

PATANEGRA

Pata Negra, the new tapas theme restaurant on Central Avenue, hosted an opening reception on Thursday, March 19, and is now officially open in St. Pete. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers a variety of dishes including those that appeal to those on gluten-free and vegetarian diets.

For breakfast, you need to try their gluten-free oatmeal bowl covered in cinnamon and sweet plantains. For lunch, you can indulge in their mofongo de camarones and their empanadas de cangrejo. The veggie tapas plate of spaghetti squash with orange blossom honey is a light bit of heaven as well. For dinner, the bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with almonds over endive leaves with blue cheese dressing are revelatory along with their tres leches dessert.

With the inclusion of ThinkTank's reimagining of the First Friday celebration on the 200 Block, this staple strip in downtown is rising as an entertainment and foodie desitination.

Pata Negra is located at 200 Central Avenue. They are open from 7:30am-10pm Monday through Wednesday; 7:30am-11pm on Thursday; 7:30am-midnight on Friday and Saturday. For a full menu, visit their official website and keep up with their special offerings by liking them on Facebook
