Burg Bits: Square tacos on the 600 Block, vegan deli in Gulfport

smith and associates

This latest Burg Bits is perfect for taco lovers and vegans alike. There’s a new spot slated to further enliven the bustling 600 Block. If you’re looking for a quick trip outside of the Burg, there’s a vegan deli that may have just converted our diet — it’s that damn good.

Amigos Tortilla Bar opening in October

Do you love tacos? Then you probably love the Burg. There are a multitude of options when it comes to the handheld treat. Red Mesa Mercado/Cantina, Cali Tacos, Casita Taqueria and D’Mexican are just a few of our favorites, but doesn’t even begin to showcase the depth of options residents have for the dish.

Enter Amigos Tortilla Bar, a concept that is going to bring the flavors of Key West to the 600 Block. The 681 Central Avenue location will be the restaurant’s first outside of the Conch Republic.

Amigo’s serves up square tacos, which allows them to hold all those ingredients a bit more securely. The restaurant should open before the end of October. You can whet your appetite for their menu by following them on Facebook.

Where will Amigo’s Tortilla Bar be located? You can find the forthcoming square taco shop at 681 Central Avenue.

Golden Dinosaurs in Gulfport is a must visit

Gulfport is one of our favorite spots to escape to. Why? Well the newly opened Artisan Food Collective for one. There’s also a slew of solid waterfront bars and local shops to pique our interest.

Now, there’s a vegan deli to further endear us to the area. Golden Dinosaurs Vegan Deli not only has an amazing name, but also vegan food that will make you drool — and we’re not even vegan.

What dishes entice us? For starters, the custom cakes. The deli’s teased delicacies like nude raspberry and lemon cake, fudge raspberry slices and German chocolate cake — all of which are made with a vegan twist.

The sandwiches may turn even the most ardent meat lovers vegan. The pressed Banh Mi is revelatory. The sandwich is made with Sambal marinated organic tofu, pickled daikon & carrot, cucumber, fresh jalapeño, sriracha mayo, sweet soy reduction and cilantro, pressed on a baguette.

The vegan pumpkin cheesecake is kind of appointment eating at this point. Savor those fall flavors while you can, Floridians.

While we’ve yet to try it ourselves, we’ve heard rave reviews regarding the Buffalo Tempeh sandwich.

Where is the Golden Dinosaur Vegan Deli located? You can find this foodie gem at 2930 Beach Boulevard South in Gulfport.
