Strangely Escalating Property Values in Midtown
10 News reporter Noah Pransky uncovers allegations that property appraisers are making artificially high assessments in order to compel owners to sell their properties in the Dome Industrial Park area. The city is developing the area as part of an $85 million revitalization plan. One homeowner, whose property was appraised at $26,924, ended up with $145,000 plus closing costs.

Recognizing that, truly, to look good is to feel good, Clothes for Kids aims to ensure every school-age child has access to "quality clothing so that he or she may attend school with the confidence and self-esteem needed to achieve academic success." To that end, Clothes for Kids offers free shopping trips at their St. Petersburg and Clearwater stores for kids who qualify. Clothes are arranged by size and type, and divided into four departments: Girls, Boys, Young Men and Junior Girls. The shop is bright and cheerful, and of course dressing rooms are provided. Shoppers must be pre-qualified, and shopping is by appointment only.
At the moment, the shop is short on boys’ sneakers; especially sizes 10 to 12. If you’re in possession of some, consider donating them. Clothes for Kids is located at 3251 3rd Ave. N, Suite 145, in St. Petersburg.
The city of St. Petersburg is looking for citizen ambassadors to join the city’s official delegation to our sister city in Japan, Takamatsu, this November 6 to 13. The international trip marks the 50th anniversary of our relationship with Takamatsu, like St. Petersburg, Takamatsu is a beautiful waterfront city. Located on the island of Shikoku, it has a population of 419,361. Its most popular tourist attraction is the Ritsurin Garden, dating back to the Edo Period, when the first bonsai trees were cultivated.
The group will join Mayor Bill Foster in official ceremonies in Takamatsu on November 8 and 9. Ambassadors will also visit the "art island" of Naoshima. If you’d like to participate, send a letter of interest and resume to the city’s Office of Arts and International Relations before September 20, 2011. You’ll need to pay your own expenses, about $3,500. Homestays with local families are available. For more information, call 727-893-7465.
