Burg Bits: Hawkers, Daily Eats, Pei Wei Near Official Openings

Hawkers Asian Street Fare, the award-winning restaurant based in Orlando, has caused quite a bit of buzz in the city's foremost blossoming district, The EDGE. Located at 1235 Central Avenue, the owners of Hawker's have been hard at work getting their newest spot open.

For the uninitiated, the term Hawkers describes street vendors who depend on locally grown ingredients to create dishes sold from mobile karts and stands. The chefs at the restaurant have cultivated a menu that features the best of street food recipes that have been passed down for generations.

Their bulgogi beef and chicken skewers are phenomenal, as are their honey sriracha wings fresh from the grill. Many of the dishes at Hawkers are meant to be shared. Their small plates include Pork Belly Bao ( three freshly steamed buns, filled with slow-braised pork belly, pickled mustard greens, sliced hard boiled eggs and topped with sweet peanuts and cilantro), Curry Mashed Potatoes, Curry Hawker Meatballs and Asian Fried Green Beans. A bowl of Curry Duck Noodles will be clutch during the colder days in St. Pete.

Their Ramen Burger, which is only offered at certain points during the year, is the true MVP of the menu. A dish that fans of the restaurant anxiously wait for. Hawkers is also currently working on a brew collaboration with their neighbors at Green Bench Brewing.

The owners plan to open within the first two weeks of March. You can follow their progress on Facebook.

More craft beer is on soaring to St. Pete. Flying Boat Brewing Company is swiftly working to make its mark in this growing community of foodies, brewers and entrepreneurs.

The brewery pays homage to Tony Jannus who, on January 1, 1914, piloted the world's first scheduled winged airline service. Their brews promise to be as bold and inspiring as that flight.

Flying Boat Brewing is coming soon to 1776 11th Avenue North.

Slated for early March openings are Daily Eats and Fresh Kitchen (4th Street and 45th Avenue North). Those driving down 4th street can now see the progress on both structures with the rising of their signs. The idea of readily available comfort food and healthy lunch options right next to eachother is stirring quite a bit of excitement on the blossoming stretch of 4th Street. We'll be cheers-ing when those mamoth DE chocolate chip pancakes are just a short drive/bike ride away.

Continuing with the 4th Street development is the opening of Pei Wei at 14th Avenue North and 4th Street. They already have several locations in Tampa Bay area but this will put them closer to the emerging downtown crowd in the Burg. The concept mixes casual dining with fast food. The Asian Fusion restaurant features dishes such as Kung Pao Shrimp  and Wasabi Crunch Rolls, Honey Seared/Ginger Broccoli Chicken plates and more.
