It’s a busy time in the Sunshine City. Restaurants, both local and national, are setting roots in the city on the rise. Several yet-to-open concepts have begun the buildout and hiring processes for their respective new locations. From a new fast-casual joint from the team behind Hooters, to a brand new Draught House in the EDGE District, here are a few openings to keep on your radar.

In addition to the spots listed below, Chick’n Cone, a chicken and waffle cone joint, should open within the next several weeks on Central Avenue.

The Grumpy Gringo just made its debut, and Mary Margaret’s, an Irish Pub from the minds behind The Galley, is also working to open soon next door.

Plus, a risqué new dessert restaurant, Better Than Sex, just signed a lease in the EDGE District.

Hoots

The corner at 1st Avenue North and 2nd Street will soon be home to a new grab-and-go concept from the team behind the Hooters franchise. It’ll be the first Hoots to open in Florida. The first location opened in Chicago back in 2017.

Hoots will open in a 1,000-square-foot space at 204 1st Avenue North. There will be limited outdoor seating. It’s a counter service restaurant, and will feature male and female servers and no revealing uniforms.

It’s slated to open in either February or March of this year. Crews have begun working on the space right next Jannus Live, and a sign in the window says the concept is currently hiring.

Draught House DTSP

The ground floor of Fusion is about to get a new bar. First it was The Flying Pig, then McAuley’s Pub, and soon it’ll be The Local Draught House.

This new bar will feature full liquor, craft cocktails, and 30 taps. There are currently 4 Local Draught House’s in Tampa, and another location planned for Orlando in addition to the downtown St. Pete spot.

Local Draught House is currently hiring bartenders with craft cocktail and craft beer experience. Those interested can send a resume to thelocaldh@gmail.com.

An official opening date is TBA. The Local Draught House, 1584 Central Avenue.

Chicken Salad Chick on 4th Street

After years of sitting vacant, the former China City spot on 4th Street North will officially be activated once more. This time by Chicken Salad Chick, a fast-casual health food joint serving up some of the most raved about chicken salad in Tampa Bay.

The restaurant offers 12 different varieties of chicken salad, from the traditional to the surprisingly spicy.

Once open, it will be the chain’s first official location in St. Petersburg. There are several already operating in the Tampa Bay region.

The Blend Coffee and Wine Bar

The Blend, a brand new coffee and wine bar from Stacha Madsen and Nichole McVicar, has also made a major move downtown. Their first location in St. Pete is already garnering rave reviews for its fantastic wine selection, and inclusion of white espresso. It’s a Seattle-inspired cafe.

Madsen plans to open a second location at 1211 4th Street North with the same flair for fun and flavor. An official opening date is still TBA, but it should be operating by the end of February/early march.

For now, you can whet your appetite by visiting their downtown space at 490 1st Avenue South.
