It’s only January, and we may already have one of the best nights of local music for the entire year. This Saturday, January 13, The Palladium’s beautiful Hough Hall will play host to “Alex Harris Live! An Evening of Soul,” taking place at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available here.

The host of the evening (and also one of the performers), Alex Harris has made a name for himself on the global R&B scene, while remaining a mainstay in his home town of St. Pete. His series of shows at The Floridian became must-attend events, and this newest experience may be his biggest yet.

Alongside Harris, An Evening of Soul welcomes the incredible duo of Zo! and Tall Black Guy, plus an amazing solo show by the rising star J. Brown. This show, like so many before it, is a unique opportunity to catch supremely entertaining acts as they ascend to the heights of the industry. Plus, it comes with the local influence as these artists who have traversed the world all have ties to St. Pete.

Tickets are limited for the intimate show at The Palladium, and are available here. Learn more about each artist below.

Tall Black Guy was raised on Motown

“The story of Terrel Wallace (Tall Black Guy – TBG), and his love for music begins in Detroit, Michigan. From a child, his soul was fed a healthy diet of Motown, jazz, and early Hip Hop. It was from these sounds where TBG developed an ear for soulful chords, smooth melodies, and chest hitting drums. After realizing music would be his future, he gave up his first love (basketball), and devoted his life to creating the body of work that the world has grown to know and love.

“Through this catalog of productions filled with incredibly clever samples, and deft original chops, his musical message has connected with fans across the globe including DJ Jazzy Jeff, Gilles Peterson (who subsequently included him on one of his Brownswood Bubblers albums), Lefto, Questlove, and countless others.”

J. Brown exudes future stardom

“Detroit, the illustrious city known for its legendary Motown heritage and thriving music scene, continues to pulsate with the infectious energy of contemporary music that transcends time. Prepare to be enthralled as J. Brown steps into the limelight, emerging as a torchbearer of timeless musical values, eager to join the ranks of the illustrious names that have captivated The Motor City.

“With the highly anticipated release of his inaugural album, “Chapter & Verse,” in 2022, J. Brown demonstrated the full extent of his artistry. The album featured the mesmerizing hit single “Don’t Rush,” a collaboration with multi-platinum artist Tank, which soared to an impressive #7 position on the R&B Billboard chart. This infectious track, alongside the Radio sensation “Baby I Can,” continues to captivate listeners, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts and minds.”

“Zo! then began expanding his musical repertoire to include film scoring, completing full scores for two documentaries: Black, White & Blue (2018) and the Northwestern University commissioned, The Takeover (2018). Along with production partner, Phonte (of The Foreign Exchange/Little Brother) Zo! helped to compose music for the IFC sketch-comedy series, Sherman’s Showcase (2019). In 2019, Zo! released FourFront his fourth compilation-style album on the +FE Music imprint. Most recently, he has completed music for season two of Sherman’s Showcase (2022) with Phonte and has joined forces with powerhouse producer Tall Black Guy on their 2021 release, Abstractions. Zo! continues to emphasize the usage of live instrumentation and raw emotion as the blueprint for his music while continuing to delve into sound expansion with each album release.”
