AMC Theatres across the country are planning to reopen in waves beginning August 20. This move comes after slight delays in an official launch back in June.
AMC Sundial will open its doors again on August 27, according to AMC’s website, with some classic films returning to the screen. These classics include Back to the Future, and The Empire Strikes Back, as well as Inception, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The biggest anticipated debut is Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, set to open on September 3.
New safety procedures at AMC Sundial
How does a movie theatre reopen in a pandemic?
AMC has added enhanced safety procedures to ensure the comfort all guests.
Masks will be required for guests and crew throughout the theatre. Your mask must cover your nose and mouth and fit snugly around your face and chin. AMC is even specific about the mask type.
“Neck gaiters, open-chin bandanas and masks with vents or exhalation valves are not acceptable at this time, based on World Health Organization guidelines. If needed, masks are available to purchase for just $1,” according to AMC’s website.
Masks are still required while you’re in the auditorium, but may be removed while enjoying food and drinks. Please protect yourself and others by wearing a mask before, during and after your movie.
Operating at 30% capacity
All AMC, AMC DINE-IN and AMC CLASSIC auditoriums are at 30% capacity or less, based on guidelines. In auditoriums with traditional seating, every other row is blocked off for your safety. In auditoriums with wide AMC Signature Recliners, there is already enough space between rows to allow for social distancing. In all auditoriums, please leave an empty seat between yourself and other guests.
Once you’re in the auditorium, if you are uncomfortable in your reserved seat, feel free to move to another socially distant seat after the movie starts, or see an associate for assistance or a refund.
For shorter lines and quicker service, we have temporarily simplified its concessions menu. Classic movie treats like AMC Perfectly Popcorn, Coca-Cola Freestyle, hot dogs, candy, MovieNachos, AMC KidsPacks and more are available now, and we’ll expand the menu as soon as possible.
Stepped up cleaning and sanitation between screenings
To minimize contact, AMC Perfectly Popcorn and Coca-Cola Freestyle drink refills are unavailable at this time.
Managers and crew members have their temperatures read before starting their shifts. Anyone who has a fever or symptoms is required to self-quarantine until symptom free for at least 72 hours.
AMC has stepped up its cleaning between screenings, too. Auditoriums are disinfected before each show with new electrostatic disinfectant sprayers. The theatre has also upgraded its HVAC systems with MERV 13 filters wherever possible.
