It’s island time in downtown St. Pete. The Galley is hosting its annual Tiki Week extravaganza July 29 – August 4, bringing a full week of incredible food and drink to the Burg, highlighted by the annual Shipwreck Summer Bash all day and night on Saturday, August 3.
The week-long party is a tasty summer celebration and an excuse to have fun during the hottest time of year – specifically some air-conditioned fun. The party takes place both at The Galley (27 4th Street North) and next door at The Ship’s Hold, home to Florida’s largest rum collection and some of the best tiki cocktails anywhere – and we don’t just mean in St. Pete. The Galley is open daily from 11:30 am – 3 am, and Ship’s Hold is open Tuesday-Sunday from 6 pm – 3 am.
Try one of the city’s most creative culinary programs
What makes this year’s rendition particularly enticing is that it functions as the debut of some of the incredible culinary work that has been going on behind the scenes at The Galley and Ship’s Hold. Longtime Galley and Hold staple Rob Camera, a combo mixology and culinary mastermind, has taken over as Executive Chef and has been brought on to the ownership team this month, becoming a managing partner of the downtown favorite after six years with the company. Tiki Week is set to be the first big display of Chef Rob and his staff’s incredible talents both in the kitchen and behind the bar.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be on the eating and imbibing end of Camera’s skills, and after getting a sneak peek at the food and cocktail menu for Tiki Week, I couldn’t be more thrilled to come give it a taste. Pair that with The Ship’s Hold’s reputation as one of the most creative tiki-forward bars in the region, and this is truly going to be one of the most delicious summertime celebrations we’ve seen.
There is an entire tiki cocktail menu that will be available at The Galley and Ship’s Hold all week, and Camera has a full page of food specials showcasing flavor and creativity (pro tip: the full menu is available until 2 am at both restaurants, making them one of the only places you can get high-quality food during the wee hours). Each new food special includes a recommendation for pairing with a tiki cocktail, such as the Buffalo Jungle Bird Sammich pairing perfectly with their signature Appleton Jungle Bird. I already have my eye on the crawfish etoufee rangoon, expertly paired with their twist on the Pimm’s Cup.
