In addition to the star group Cage The Elephant, 97X Next Big Thing Legends will feature marquee performances by Dexter and The Moonrocks, and Girl Tones. Between the three bands, there may not be a better night for high-energy and alternative rock. It’s a treat befitting the history of 97X Next Big Thing to not only catch one legendary band, but to see two stars of tomorrow with the pair of up-and-coming bands joining the fun.

The BayCare Sound, the stunning new landmark in Clearwater, has been showcasing incredible acts since the first day the highly-anticipated music venue opened on the waterfront, and the momentum from day one has only grown with each new concert hosted at the sparkling facility. If you haven’t experienced a show at this Tampa Bay Area gem, this is your excuse to do so. Learn more about the show here.

Legends perform alongside up-and-coming stars

Though they need no introduction to long-time 97X Next Big Thing attendees, Cage The Elephant have quietly bloomed as one of this generation’s premier rock bands, buoyed by uncompromising creativity and wildly cathartic performances. To dat, they have earned dozens of Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum certifications, tallied 5 billion streams and counting, and notched countless #1 records. The group is best known for their hits such as Cigarette Daydreams, Come a Little Closer, and Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked. The Kentucky-bred six-piece is a true 97X Next Big Thing Legend.

Meanwhile, Dexter and The Moonrocks have invented an entirely new genre, becoming some of modern rock’s trailblazers. A fry cook, an oil field operator, a concrete surface decorator, and a kids’ baseball coach came together in West Texas, blending the country and western sounds of their childhoods with the grunge they fell in love with as teenagers. That fusion became Western Space Grunge—a genre of their own making that turned them from a grassroots phenomenon into a force to be reckoned with. Their breakout single Sad in Carolina took them from small-town bars to seven weeks at #1 on U.S. Alternative radio. Now, with Ritalin—a stadium-ready anthem already climbing the charts—they’re a band fully coming into their own.

Girl Tones are a high-energy rock duo brought to life by two sisters named Kenzie and Laila. Both classically trained musicians, Kenzie transitioned from cello to guitar and Laila from piano to drums, in an effort “to electrify sentient beings from this galaxy to the next.” Fittingly for this show, their debut single Fade Away was produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant.
