Firestone Grand Prix 5k Run
Lace up race fans, registration for the 2016 Firestone Grand Prix 5K Run presented by Modern Business Associates (MBA) is now open. The annual night run takes place Friday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m., providing participants with the unique opportunity to join a race of their own by running the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg street course at night. Participants will begin and end the run on Bayshore Drive next to North Straub Park. Following the run, an award ceremony and celebration featuring movies on the lawn, music and family entertainment. 3rd Annual Foeder For Thought @ Green Bench Brewing
Foeder for Thought is a celebration of oak fermentation. This is one of the most unique and intimate festivals during Tampa Bay Beer Week offering beer to sample from across the country. Green Bench will be offering unlimited samples of oak fermented craft beer on draft and in bottle format. Jack Kerouac Night @ The Flamingo
A birthday celebration of this great writer’s life, times and art at the bar where he had his last drink. Music and beat poetry, all in the spirit of Kerouac. Special guests include national author Tim Dorsey, reading from his newest book, just released, Coconut Cowboy, and the renowned Brad Morewood St. Pete Beat Poets reading their passages backed by a highly-skilled improvisational jazz band led by jazzy guitarist Kelly Green.  Scattered among the poetry will appear some of Tampa Bay’s best folk musicians, all with a Kerouac tinge to their music. A full night of music, intimate and informal – as Jack would have enjoyed it – on the front deck of the bar. 7-11:30pm. Flamingo Sports Bar, 1230 9th Street North.

Jack Kerouac’s Florida: At The End Of The Road – A work-in-process documentary film premiere @ Studio@620
When Jack Kerouac first arrived in Florida in September of 1957, he was an unknown writer.  He would spend the next twelve years as a Florida snowbird, traveling between Florida and New York. Two months after his arrival here “On The Road” was published and he was catapulted into fame as the Avatar and Bard of the Beat Generation. A soft-spoken poet, he came to abhor the notoriety.  Kristy Andersen’s 30-minute work-in-progress is a premiere of the film, with funding from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs.  The event is a fundraiser for funding to complete the film.
