Following the senseless acts of violence this country has witnessed over the past several weeks, the Dr. Carter G Woodson Museum and members of the arts community will gather in a unified call for human rights. Protest poetry and poetry of witness will be read/performed by Florida Poet Laureate Peter Meinke, Julie Armstrong (University of South Florida), Walter Wally B Jennings (Hillsborough County Schools & Arts Council), Sheree Greer (St. Petersburg College), Gloria Munoz (Eckerd College, Slam Anderson (Kitchen Table Literary Arts Foundation), Dennis Lemmermann and Mona Bethke (University of Tampa).
The event takes place Sunday, July 24 at 5pm. Absi Ote will perform music and Evan Thomas Niemann will do a live painting. Donations will be accepted at the door with all proceeds benefiting the Woodson Museum. Photographer Christy Marie will display her work at the event, too. Her portrait series "I Matter, WE Matter."
