The game will be televised on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. SportsCenter will begin coverage of the Rays' trip to Cuba on March 20. The team's trip marks the first time an MLB has traveled to Cuba since 1999. The Baltimore Oriels played the Cuban National team.

The Rays were selected in a random draw last November by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. Only 40 players will be able to make the trip. St. Pete is currently in the running to be the location of the Cuban Consulate. The Rays opportunity to serve as ambassadors for the the country as well as the city feels serendipitous. Hopefully this historic trip will yield landmark results for the Sunshine City.

Poynter Hosts Pulitzer Prize Winners

The Pulitzer Prize Board, in honor of the 100-year anniversary of the Pulitzer Prizes, has selected the Poynter Institute to conduct a two-day event aimed at highlighting the historical achievements of journalists and others who produced Pultizer Prize-winning work in the service of civil rights, social equality and democracy.

This two-day centennial celebration will feature key opportunities for aspiring and established journalists, as well as adamant readers and activists to learn from the most brilliant and experienced minds in their field. All events are FREE and open to the public.

Poynter begins the celebration with an event titled The Voices of Social Justice and Equality, featuring a keynote by Congressman John Lewis. Lewis is a legendary Civil Rights leader and was an organizer of the Selma Bridge March in 1965. The event will showcase photography, fine art, live music and dance performances dedicated to the work of Civil Rights-era Pulitzer Prize winners. There will be a VIP reception at 5:30pm and the program begins at 7pm. The event takes place at The Palladium Theater, 253 5th Avenue North. Click HERE to register.

On Friday, April 1, The Poynter Institute will host a panel discussion titled Social Justice Beyond Race. The poor cannot escape the floods in New Orleans; the water is poisoned in Flint, Michigan; city schools in Florida are “failure factories.” Can a Pulitzer Prize be won by journalists who can anticipate these potential disasters, or are we doomed, at a time of diminishing resources, to be reporting from behind?

Panelists include Liz Balmaseda, Jacqui Banaszynski, Ann Hull, Clarence Williams, Diana Sugg, Tom Huang, Rob King and Gregory Farvre. The program begins at 10am at Barnes Pavillion at Poynter Institute, 801 3rd Street South. Click HERE to register.

There will also be a panel discussing the future of Civil Rights journalism and Teach-in with some of the most respected journalists working today. Click HERE for more details about all of the events.
