Arts Alive: Your Guide To Free Museum Day In The Burg

Free Museum Day is Saturday, September 23, beginning at 10am and ending at 3pm. With a slew of exceptional exhibits on display right now in the Burg we wouldn’t want you to lose an entire day in just one. The city is blooming with works of illusion, classic compositions regarding a more bucolic time, curated collections detailing the narrative of the Burg and so much more.

We don’t want you to stretch your art muscles thin. We want you to imbibe the art this city displays, rejoicing in each exhibits rich flavor. Here’s a breakdown of the museum’s that will be open to the public along with some special deals each institution will offer exclusively on Saturday.

The Dali Museum: 1 Dali Blvd.
Special: Free admission is for Pinellas County residents only. All other paid admission will receive a coupon for a free admission on a return visit.
Exhibit:Memory, Mind, Matter: The Sculpture of Eduardo Chillida,
Works from the permanent collection. Spanning Dali’s entire career, the museum’s permanent collection includes works in all the mediums the iconic artist worked in. Enjoy their extensive archive of Dali documents, original drawing books, photos, manuscripts and oil paintings.

Florida Holocaust Museum: 55 5th St. S
Exhibit: Kaddish in Wood, Works from Samuel Bak, The Holocaust and the Book of Fire by Murray Zimiles
Works from the permanent collection: History, Heritage and Hope. The works recount the history of the Holocaust through photographs, texts and original artifacts.

Dr. Carter G Woodsowoodsonmuseum.orgn Museum: 2240 9th Ave. S.
Exhibit: “MYAFRIKA-ART” by artist Gary Lemons
While you’re there enjoy the museum’s much admired Legacy Gardens.

Museum Of Fine Arts: 255 Beach Dr. NE
Exhibit: Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration, Fonchen Lord
Works from the permanent collection. The MFA’s galleries cover 4,500 years of civilization in objects, both antique and contemporary. Discover masterpieces from Cezanne, Renoir and others. Explore the sculpture garden, the Steuben glass gallery and their extensive photo collection.

It’s not just the museum’s you can enjoy on Saturday. A few venues will open their doors to the Burg as well.

Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center: 1124 Central Ave.
Exhibit: Good Folks Invitational
Enjoy the gift shop and their well curated gallery as well as children’s art activities. All shoppers receive 20% discount on all merchandise.

Morean Arts Center: 719 Central Ave.

Treat yourself to the gallery store/gift shop.

Morean Center For Clay: 420 22nd St. S.
Explore the largest collection of pottery in the southeast in the indelible historic train station. Take home a souvenir at the member’s gift shop.

Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop: 719 Central Ave.
Observe local master glassblowers create one-of-a-kind pieces. Demonstrations will occur in the Hot Shop.

Chihuly Collection: 720 Central Ave
Special: $1 admission for everyone.
